Body Work

1969 Shelby GT 350 replica

Here are some shots of the bodywork progress...

(please excuse most of the pics are crappy digital pics)

Here is a shot of the interior painted grabber orange with acrylic enamel. I know its not factory correct to paint the entire interior, but this is how Ford should have done it.

An engine hoist is used to lift the car up, to paint the undercarriage.

Underside painted and  black roofing tar used for a close resemblance of the factory sealer.

The 69/70 Shelby hoods fit poorly to begin with. The repos are ever worse! It seems that the people who made the repo hoods, used badly bowed hoods to make the copies.

So what was done......... first a template is made of the shape of the top of the fender out of butcher paper. Then thin strips are cut out of the underside of the hood, along the outer 2 sides (where the supports are) and 2 flat pieces of wood are put on the topside of the outer parts of the hood, (to remove the bow) then clamped it till the bow was gone on the hood and fiber glassed a piece of steel in the hollow shell of the hood. I will have more pics to show how this was done soon.....

Here's how it fit before....

 69\70 SHELBY Hood fix:

First cut a long thin opening into the inner shell

Then make a template of the contour of the top of the fenders where they meet the hood and  clamp a piece of wood to the top of the hood to remove the bow.  Use the template made earlier to match to the hood, when they lined up ....it was ready to glass it.

A piece of angle iron is put  into the opening that's cut out . Whatever you can fit into the opening and not hit the piece that was removed.

Then load up the hole with the angle iron in it with glass resin.  Then take fiberglass mat and shove it in there and glass it until the angle iron is completely covered. The more the better. Let it sit for 24 hours and then put the piece that was cut out back in and fiber glass it on. I don't have a pic of the finished product, but it is completely undetectable that anything was done. And most of all.......the bow is gone.

and after.......
